The small 120-page bedside table book ‘Was ich weiß, macht mich heiß’ (What I know makes me hot) is published alongside the large coffee table book. The coffee table book ’Knowledge is sexy’ sounds surprising, even provocative. Sexy is what is seductive and exciting, isn’t it? Exactly. With this creative and original inspiration and documentation project, Michael Köckritz sheds light on the connections and significance of knowledge and education. ‘Knowledge is sexy’ was not only written by well-known authors such as the Swiss-German writer and philosopher Philipp ,numerous interviews were also conducted with personalities from science, the media and other creative fields.

These included Gerd Gigerenzer, one of the most renowned psychologists of our time. He argues that we need more numeracy skills in order to be able to navigate a modern society responsibly. Gigerenzer: ‘Dealing with numbers, especially statistics, is as important today as reading and writing were a hundred years ago. Porsche Chief Designer Michael Mauer explains the role of relevant knowledge and sound education in the context of design work, intuition and creativity. Mauer: ‘As designers, we often work at the interface between the past and the future. I see knowledge as a kind of basic prerequisite for being able to make decisions.‘’Knowledge is often confused with information.’ So says Gabriele Fischer, who founded the business magazine ‘brand eins’ 25 years ago. In this interview, she talks about what love and economics have to do with each other and why she thinks the state of schools in Germany is disastrous. Other interviewees: psychology professor Bernhard Sabel, media scientist Bernhard Pörksen, essayist and cultural journalist Konrad Paul Liessmann, founder of Jung von Matt NERD Toan Nguyen, child and adolescent psychiatrist and sexologist Dr Alexander Korte, the authors and journalists Dirk von Gehlen and Christian Ankowitsch, the management consultant Christian Malorny and the professor of special education, psychology and diagnostics Armin Castello.

The Bedside Table Book with only 120-pages is a graphic and image-led infotainment smorgasbord with pictures, quotes, short texts, instructions and lists. A graphically sophisticated ‘gift/to-go book’ and a stimulating, unconventional and sometimes even somewhat exuberant foray into the world of knowledge and all the rest.
