History: Carroll Shelby purchased the successful Cooper T6I sports racing chassis with a Peter Brock designed full aluminum body and modified it to fit the Ford 289 V8, to be raced in the USRRC Series. CM/5/64 was Raced by Bob Bondurant at the 1964 Los Angeles Times Grand Prix at Riverside International Raceway, finishing in 5th place. Two weeks later, Bondurant raced CM/5/64 in the Monterey Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, finishing in 3rd place overall. Carroll Shelby then sent CM/5/64 to Ford Advance Vehicles in England for Roy Salvadori to race with factory support at Silverstone and Goodwood.

At the end of the 1965 season, it was returned to Shelby American. In 1966 it was sold to James Brown, who raced it in various East and Midwest SCCA regional and National events with several 1st place finishes. After being in the care of a series of well-known Shelby collectors and a receiving a stunning restoration, this famous Shelby King Cobra Team car is now for sale.

Condition: A comprehensive 5-year restoration by Dave Handy and Jeff Horne at Sasco Sports, based out of Virginia International Raceway at a cost of over $300,000. It was overseen by Chuck Brandt, the SAAC Registry historian on the King Cobras, with assistance from Peter Brock, the original Shelby Team designer.

Of Note: Includes a large history file. A known documented ownership. A stunning restoration, documented with receipts and photographs. Featured in many magazines. There is a historic photo archive. The King Cobras are eligible for Goodwood, Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and other notable historic racing events.

Comments: Recognized by the Shelby World Registry as one of the six King Cobras built by Shelby American in 1963 and 1964. It is one of only a few known King Cobras left in existence. The ownership history is known and complete. It has been fully restored to 1964 racing specifications and prepared to the highest level. It is eligible to participate in most historic racing venues where it can be a winner on the race track or on the lawn at a concours event.
