The New Mercedes-AMG GT2

A new era. A new dimension. Since 1967, Mercedes-AMG and the race cars represent outstanding performance – the new Mercedes-AMG GT2 now proves this once again.

Unbenannt 6

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 is the most powerful homologated race car in history of our Customer Racing programme. Both power and top speed of the new race car rank above GT3 level.

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 was developed to the technical GT2 regulations of the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO) and particularly aims at ambitious amateur drivers. As a result, the new model bridges the gap between the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Thanks to its intuitive operation, the usual high safety standard and an outstanding drivability, the Mercedes-AMG GT2 provides a convincing overall package for the increasing number of attractive international GT2 race events.

Performance

The outstanding feature of the new Mercedes-AMG GT2 is the maximum performance level of up to 520 kW (707 hp). The source of the power is the AMG 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine with a flat crankshaft that was optimised especially for motorsport purposes.

The power is transmitted by means of a sequential six-speed racing gearbox with modified gear ratios. Like in all GT models, the transmission is mounted on the rear axle in transaxle configuration and is connected to the engine with a torque tube of carbon fibre enforced plastic (CFK), torsion and torque rigid.

The chassis incorporates comprehensively adjustable motorsport shock absorbers as well as adjustable anti-roll bars.

Exterior

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 shows the same strong design language as all the Customer Racing cars coming from Affalterbach: from the wide front section with the large air intake openings up to the muscular rear end, every detail is aimed at performance. The carbon bonnet has a large air outlet and louvers have been integrated into the carbon wings over the front axle.

The aerodynamic highlight of the weight-optimised Mercedes-AMG GT2 is a large and fully newly designed rear wing that significantly contributes to the excellent driving stability. The single-level wing is multi-adjustable and significantly contributes to the precise handling.

An important new development for racing use is the wheel mount system: the Mercedes-AMG GT2 has an innovative central locking system that allows for even faster and more reliable changes of the forged 18“ AMG light alloy wheels during pit stops.

Interior

Functional racing ergonomics prevail in the cockpit of the Mercedes-AMG GT2. The central console is tilted towards the driver and therefore allows for easier access to the switches located there.

An exclusive novelty is the multifunctional steering wheel that was developed together with the sim racing experts at Cube Controls. With its large adjustment range and numerous options for use, it provides a new level of ergonomics, functionality and control.

An innovation in the driver’s central field of view is the DDU (Digital Display Unit) of the latest generation. The fully programmable dashboard system has a high-resolution display. As a result, it can be operated intuitively and is particularly user-friendly.

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 comes with all the proven safety features of our GT3 and GT4 models. From the carbon safety cell, rigidly connected with the chassis, and six-point safety belts, safety net, fire extinguishing system, carbon safety fuel tank and extrication hatch up to racing ABS and the multi-adjustable traction control.
