Porsche Design: Chronograph 1 Limited Edition For Hodinkee

The new Chronograph 1 Limited Edition For Hodinkee, while largely adhering to F. A. Porsche’s specifications, has been updated for the modern era. Designed, developed, and handcrafted in the Porsche watch factory in Solothurn, Switzerland, the 2024 Hodinkee Edition envisions what F.A. Porsche would have modified for a contemporary release. The answer? Not much, it’s hard to improve on an icon.

Riffing on the original Chronograph 1 design, this time, the 40.8mm wide and 14.15mm thick case and matching bracelet are rendered in super-durable, ultra-light titanium and clad in a matte-black Titanium-Carbide coating. Like car lovers’ recent appetite for “backdated” Porsche to get a vintage 911 feel with a more modern spec, the Super-LumiNova® on the Chronograph 1 Hodinkee Edition has been given a retro-inspired hue, slightly darker on the dial indices than on the hands. It’s less stark and more classic, a subtle tweak that will make this new watch all the more familiar to lovers of the vintage Chronograph 1, who have become accustomed to how the original dials aged over time.

The dial uses the old-school Porsche Design logo and font and features the legacy-spec “1 Mile” graphic rehaut, paying tribute to the U.S. market that Hodinkee calls home. The ‘H’ at 6 o’clock – the only reference to Hodinkee on the dial – is rendered in Porsche Design Red from 1972, drawn from the colors used for the “3H” models issued to the military.

The 2024 Hodinkee Edition also pays homage to the Porsche Design and Hodinkee fan community in Japan, where Hodinkee founded its first sister publication. That’s why the day and date display at 3 o’clock is available in English and Japanese. With a click and a few rotations of the crown, the wearer can choose which language is displayed.

The watch keeps its iconic 6-9-12 subdial layout, with a 30-minute counter at the top, a 12-hour counter at the bottom, and running seconds at 9 o’clock. But now, under the hood, the Chronograph 1 features the ultra-accurate Porsche Design Calibre WERK 01.140. That movement is tucked safely away behind a closed titanium case back showing the historic Porsche Design logo, lettering, and the limited-edition number. You’ll also see the Hodinkee name and icon, bookended by the year ‘2024’ and the engraving along the end: “TRILOGY – CHAPTER 1.”

A total of 350 pieces of the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Limited Edition For Hodinkee will be produced worldwide. The first 100 pieces are available in the Hodinkee Shop for $9,650 USD.
