This one owner 1995 Porsche 911 (993) Cabriolet in Black with Black Leather has 14,477 documented miles and shows it.Just purchased from the original owner (the past President of Marvel Comics), it has been under his loving care since day one.
Regardless of performance, comfort and safety being surpassed by its subsequent generations, the 993 is still considered by many purists to be the last great 911. Introduced in the U.S. in 1995, it was the third generation of 911s in Porsche’s full history.
Without gambling its 911 identity, the styling by Tony Hatter was all-new with bulging muscles all in the right places. The front fender line strikes a compromise between the classic street 911 contours and the “slope-nose” developed for racing. The headlights and new bumpers are more smoothly integrated into the body. A rear view of this Porsche demonstrates significant change with a wider rear stance and bumper and higher mounted taillights with a full width light strip. More aerodynamic mirrors came standard on both sides. Overall the design created more downforce for better traction.
The rear hood features a retractable spoiler with integrated cooling vents. The Cabriolet sports a small additional spoiler housing the 3rd braking light. Cabriolet soft tops are fully-electrical, hand-stitched and reinforced with metal plates and an automatic wind-blocker. Offering a wide array of modern features and better performance, the 993 signified the end of the air-cooled era for Zuffenhausen and was the bridge to the next generation, the water-cooled 996.
In their tried and true method, Porsche improved its predecessors flat-six. They redesigned the bottom end and added hydraulic self-adjusting valves. This Carrera Cabriolet sports the improved 3.6L flat-six M64 engine with port fuel injection (as opposed to later VarioRam equipped 993s). Combined with a newly designed dual-flow exhaust system incorporating two catalytic converters it now produced 272 hp and 243 lb-ft torque.
The all new 6-speed transaxle featuring six tightly-spaced ratiosenabling the engine to be in its best torque range in almost every situation.
All these modifications contribute to a 0-60 of 5.4 seconds and top speed of 168. Additional improvements included a 20% increase in torsional stiffness, 4-piston calipers brakes with larger (near 12”) ventilated and cross-drilled discs, and revised power steering.
The 993 introduced a newly designed all alloy multi-link rear suspension attached to an alloy subframe. Two upper links and a lower control arm replaced the old semi-trailing arms, and “Weissach elastokinematics”, refined on the 928, helped steer the tail in behind the nose eliminating the dreaded “Training Throttle Oversteer”. The 993 works like no 911 had before, maintaining its lively feel, instantaneous directional changes, yet exhibits no urge to get away from you. The new suspension also reduced interior noise and improved the ride quality.

The 1995 993 is highly collectible for many reasons. Many consider it to be the best looking of all 911s. Beyond being the last air-cooled Porsche it blends classic attributes with modern technology and convenience. Newer generations may be quicker, but it’s still one of the most rewarding 911s to drive. The 1995 model is considered by many to be the best and is the most sought after. With OBD I and port full injection, the 1995 is more dependable and less prone to check engine light issues of early OBD II and the more troublesome early VarioRam induction. These are very solidly built cars.
About the “Marvel Comics” 993
This gorgeous example is completely original as delivered by the factory. It’s gleaming black paint is near perfect (some stone chips on the front bumper from normal wear). The original convertible top and boot are strikingly “as new”, in fact in better condition than many young 911s.
The seats are trimmed in black partial leather with an 8-way power driver’s seat. The original Black Porsche floor mats remain. Options include a Dark Rootwood shifter, Becker Porsche CR-1 Cassette-radio, optional 17″ wheels and automatic speed control.
With the car come all original manuals, keys, the original leather fob, original purchase agreement, maintenance records and other records including a letter on Marvel Comics full-color letterhead. The trunk includes the NEVER-USED collapsible spare tire, tool roll, jack and air compressor, and even a factory trickle charger.
To make this car even more perfect, once purchased we put it through a comprehensive inspection and a $4,500. maintenance by well-respected Gaspere of Gaswerks Garage who stated “This is one of the best 993s I’ve ever seen with no leaks”, in fact he used the term “bone dry”. Maintenance included ALL new fluids and filters, a new clutch master cylinder, two new hatch struts, a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sports, brake light LEDs, spoiler curtain, remote batteries and fresh wiper blades.
