Introduced in 1965, the DB6 evolved from the legendary DB5, offering improved aerodynamics via the addition of the distinctive rear Kamm tail design improving high-speed stability, a longer wheelbase for better passenger comfort with room for four people, and increased luggage space, making it one of the great grand tourers of its era. The DB6 was a highly fashionable car to be seen in, with famous owners including HRH Prince Charles, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Twiggy, and Peter Sellers.

The DB6 Vantage, such as the one here available, is one of approximately 335 high-performance variants believed to have been produced. It features a 325bhp straight-six engine with triple Weber carburettors, delivering a remarkable 148 mph top speed—exceptional for its time. With a more engaging and dynamic driving experience than the standard DB6, the Vantage remains one of the most sought-after Aston Martins of its era.

Pendine is delighted to offer this exceptional, concours-winning Aston Martin DB6 Vantage, a right-hand-drive, manual, UK market, matching numbers example now finished in elegant Cumberland Grey and trimmed in Connolly Vaumol VM3171 Red leather interior.

Believed to be just a four-owner car, this DB6 was originally supplied to Aston Martin Lagonda Limited as a demonstration vehicle in 1965. It was not officially registered until it was sold on 16th October 1967 to Mr. Jopp of the British School of Motoring, London, with 11,068 miles on the clock. Originally supplied in Platinum (White) over black hides, the car was specified from new with chrome wheels, heated rear screen, 3-ear hub caps, power-operated aerial, and Vantage specification engine. Although not specified on the original build sheet, the car is believed to have had hydraulic power steering retrofitted very early on in its life.

The current owner purchased the car in 2006 from his neighbour, a farmer who had owned the car for around 25 years. The farmer had kept the car off the road in a barn, and each time the current owner saw it, he offered to buy it. Eventually, when the farmer retired to France, he called the current owner and said, “It’s yours,” but insisted it must be collected immediately as he was selling all his UK assets. Without hesitation, the current owner paid straightaway, enlisting Aston Martin specialist Desmond Smail to help recover the car and carry out some initial work, as documented in the history file. Later, the car was entrusted to Martyn Collins, known as a master of body and paint.

The current owner set out from the moment of acquisition to rebuild the car to be amongst the best examples of the DB6. They embarked on a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration project, working with the country’s finest, investing a considerable amount of money into its restoration.

The car was completely stripped down to the bare metal, glass removed, and down to the last screw, ensuring that as many original components were used in the restoration and in excellent condition. Every single component of the chassis was either rebuilt, refurbished, or replaced. Suspension components were rebuilt, and all articulated bushings were replaced. New wiring, hydraulic pipes, and cylinders were installed, along with new discs and callipers. The addition of new wire wheels further completed the restoration of the running gear.

The full body restoration was led by Martyn Collins. His efforts have earned Martyn multiple accolades, including Best Car in Show twice at the National Classic Car Show. The interior was expertly crafted by Suffolk & Turley, renowned for their outstanding upholstery work. The Red leather upholstery beautifully complements the Cumberland Grey exterior, finished to the highest standard using the best hides. The seats are fully adjustable, including seat belts, providing ultimate comfort and support.

Mechanically, the Vantage-spec engine has undergone a complete rebuild by Aston Martin specialist Christian Lewis, with upgraded valve seats for unleaded fuel. The rear axle was stripped and recalibrated, and the remarkable 5-speed ZF gearbox was thoroughly checked. The vehicle also features a full stainless steel exhaust system.

The car has entered multiple Aston Martin Owners Club Concours events, winning the John Wyer Trophy for the ‘Best Restored Aston Martin’ and remaining in outstanding condition throughout, having covered minimal mileage since. It retains its distinctive UPP 888E number plate and is accompanied by an excellent service history, confirming matching numbers with a comprehensive history file with detailed photos of the restoration work and various concours events. It also includes a fitted indoor car cover, jack, and tool kit.

This DB6 Vantage is a joy to drive, offering an engaging driving experience. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest restored DB6 Vantages available today. Truly an exceptional example.

Available now for viewing and demonstration at Pendine’s Bicester Heritage showroom.
