Matra sent two of their MS120 Formula One cars to the Dutch Grand Prix in 1970. They were both equipped with this beautiful 12-cylinder engine whose high-pitched sound was more like a loud bee – a very different noise to Ferrari’s 12-cylinder units.

The Matras were about two seconds a lap off the pace, qualifying tenth and thirteenth while in the race, Jean-Pierre Beltoise finished fifth and Henri Pescarolo eighth.
