Amalgam Collection has enjoyed a close cooperation with Ferrari since 1998. Now that partnership has been taken to a new level of engagement, with the launch of a program offering bespoke Amalgam models at either 1:8 or 1:12 scale as an option for customers ordering a new Ferrari. As an extension of this new cooperation, Amalgam Collection is now offering 1:12 scale limited edition model of the current Ferrari range of sports cars. As new Ferrari cars continue to launch over the coming years, the range of 1:12 models will expand similarly. Bespoke models at 1:12 scale are exclusively available from Ferrari Dealerships.
Unveiled only 18 months after the SF90 Stradale, the SF90 Spider is Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid. With the same extreme sports car specification and record-breaking performance as the Stradale, the Hard Top architecture of the Spider brings versatility to the car’s exhilarating driving experience.
The SF90 Spider’s combustion engine is integrated with two electric motors at the front, managed by the RAC-e (Cornering Angle Regulator, Electric) system. The rear drive is derived from a Formula 1 innovation, the MGUK (Motor Generator Unit, Kinetic). Together the internal combustion engine and electric motors deliver a maximum of 1000 cv, placing the SF90 Spider at the pinnacle of both its category and the Ferrari range.
The low engine cover on the SF90 Spider improves the interaction between the airflows over and under the car’s body, minimising drag. The engine cover’s end section has a suspended wing feature that is divided into two sections. One section is fixed and incorporates the third brake light, and one mobile section has a wedge-shaped front area. This mobile section, dubbed the Shut-Off Gurney, is a patented active system placed at the rear of the car to regulate the airflow over the upper body and reduce the drag at high speeds with low lateral dynamics loads. This increases downforce in corners, under braking, and during direction changes.
Despite its appearance not being the first on a Ferrari sports car, the vortex generator system has been honed to the maximum on the SF90 Spider. The complex and optimised system of vortex generators at the front of the car balances the rear downforce. With the chassis’ front section being raised 15mm in comparison to its central section the amount of air channels towards the vortex generators is significantly increased, boosting their effectiveness. The two-section divide on the front bumper allows them to have specific functions. The pronounced indent, between the upper section and the bonnet, compresses the flow. It is this feature, alongside the two diffusers ahead of the front wheels, that contribute to generating the downforce over the front axle.
The new, innovative Human Machine Interface concept was driven by the ergonomics and styling of the interior. This new concept for the SF90 Spider includes a steering wheel with a touchpad, allowing the driver to control virtually every aspect of the car from the wheel alone. A fully configured digital 16” curved HD screen makes up the central instrument cluster and is controlled via the steering wheel. The automatic gearbox controls, located in the central tunnel, has a grille-style feature that references Ferrari’s iconic manual gearshift gate.
