History:

The Lancia company was founded in Torino, Italy in 1906 by Vincenzo Lancia. Lancia soon became renowned in the automotive world for introducing cars with numerous innovations. These included a complete electrical system as standard equipment. The first car adopting a monocoque chassis. The first 5-speed gearbox fitted to a production car. Lancia premiered the first full-production V6 engine in the 1950 Aurelia. It was also the first manufacturer to produce a V4 engine.

‍Other innovations involved the use of independent suspension in production cars in an era where live axles were common practice for both the front and rear axles of a car. The transaxle, which was first fitted to the Aurelia and Flamina range. This drive for innovation, constant quest for excellence, fixation of quality, complex construction processes and hand-built cars brought about innovative designs and a quality car, but it was an expensive endeavor.

‍By the 1950’s Lancia had former Alfa Romeo and Ferrari engineer Vitorio Jano involved in designs. This was the time the Aurelia was produced.‍

The B24 Aurelia Cabriolet was one of Lancia’s most elegant cars. Only 521 cars were built from 1956 through 1958. They featured a Vittori Jano designed V6 engine mated to a 4-speed transaxle and inboard rear brakes. The coachwork was by Pininfarina. It featured a curved front windshield, roll up windows and an elegant yet sporty fabric convertible top. Per the Aurelia registry this car was assembled on the 6th of May 1958, making this a coveted last series B24S Convertible. The car is known by the club and is in the current Aurelia registry.‍

This 1958 Lancia B24S Convertible is a late series car built in May 1958. It was delivered new in Italy and spent most of its life there with a variety of owners. It still retains its original 1958 Italian road tax sticker on the windshield. In 1994 it was with an owner in France. In 1997 it was owned by Roberto Chiodi of Rome, Italy. When in Italy it was entered in numerous historic rallies. Many of the entry stickers are still on the windshield from those events. It was sold to the USA around 2014. In 2016 Dragone Classic cars sold the car to Stephen Thein of San Diego. From 2016 until 2025 it was in the care of Virtuoso Performance in Hayward, California. It is on a Montana title.

Condition:

It has the ASI (AutomotoClub Storico Certification) and features a Grade 3 certification, their highest mark for originality. This chassis, 1649, retains its original engine #1731 and transaxle #1332. It received a sympathetic restoration in the late 1990’s, retaining its original components. It still retains its original body work, bright work, and drive train. It has since been fitted with a new top and Borrani wire wheels with a matching spare. In the summer of 2025, a carburetor rebuild and engine service was performed.‍

This Pininfarina styled convertible is an elegant design that has aged well. It is not perfect, but it is an honest correct original car with recent service and older refurbishment. The original books and tool kit remain with the car. The original body and chassis tags remain present. The original engine and transaxle are still in the car. Per the Aurelia registry this car was assembled on the 6th of May 1958, making this a coveted last series B24S Convertible. The car is known by the club and is in the current Aurelia registry.
