Atlassian Williams Racing, the iconic British Formula 1 team with nine Constructors’ Championships and responsible for taking seven drivers to World Championship titles, will be prominently featured in the remarkable World Champions Collection at this summer’s special Silverstone Festival, taking place from 22–24 August.
Curated to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first-ever points-scoring F1 race at Silverstone in 1950, the World Champions Collection will showcase cars driven by all 34 drivers to have claimed the coveted Drivers’ World Championship crown.
Spanning 75 years of innovation and competition, the collection will feature legendary machines ranging from the Alfa Romeo 158 of Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina (1950) right through to one of Max Verstappen’s recent Red Bull Racing championship-winning cars.
Seven of the 34 champions raced to the top with Williams, and Williams Heritage are kindly supporting the special display which is open to all festival-goers throughout the Bank Holiday weekend at the birthplace of Formula 1.
Williams’ first World Champion, Alan Jones, claimed the crown in 1980, with Keke Rosberg following just two years later. Nelson Piquet secured his third title with the team in 1987. After a series of close calls, Nigel Mansell triumphed in 1992, with Alain Prost earning the team’s fifth drivers’ title the following year. Williams then capped a dominant decade with back-to-back titles for Damon Hill (1996) and Jacques Villeneuve (1997).
The Williams Heritage cars to feature at the Silverstone Festival will be:
- 1979 FW07B – Alan Jones
- 1987 FW11B – Nelson Piquet
- 1992 FW14B – Nigel Mansell
- 1996 FW18 – Damon Hill
- 1997 FW19 – Jacques Villeneuve
This strong presence in the collection carries added meaning for Williams, whose Oxfordshire bases have always made Silverstone its home circuit.
“Silverstone isn’t just the site of the very first World Championship race it’s also where Williams claimed its inaugural Grand Prix victory with Clay Regazzoni back in 1979,” said Jonathan Kennard, Heritage Director of Atlassian Williams Racing.
“That unforgettable win, combined with the incredible celebrations after British Grand Prix triumphs by fan favourites like Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill, has cemented Silverstone as a cornerstone of Williams’ rich racing legacy. That’s why we at Williams Heritage are proud to support this year’s Festival celebrations by showcasing legendary cars from our prized collection.”
The presence of these iconic F1 winners from Williams Heritage adds depth and authenticity to the already historic World Champions Collection which will be one of the major highlights of the Festival this summer.
“This really is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime display,” said Nick Wigley, Event Director. “Never before has such a visually stunning and complete collection of World Championship-winning cars been assembled in one place. It’s a fitting tribute to Formula 1’s 75th birthday – right here at Silverstone, where it all began.”
The World Champions Collection is just one of many attractions planned for the Bank Holiday weekend celebrating F1’s momentous milestone. On-track, five epic retro races will relive golden eras of Grand Prix racing – from front-engined pioneers of the 1950s to the DFV-powered machines of the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s, when Williams rose to global prominence.
In tribute to the 1950 British Grand Prix, this year’s Festival will also feature a record-breaking grid of 500cc F3 cars – the pint-sized racers that supported the world’s first World Championship F1 race.
It promises to be a weekend to remember, with a broad range of ticket options including camping and hospitality packages – early bookers enjoy the best prices.
Beyond the racing, the Festival is packed with fun-filled activities for all ages. Children aged 15 and under attend free when accompanied by an adult. All tickets include access to family-friendly entertainment, including live music from Natasha Bedingfield, Craig David presents TS5, and Ministry of Sound Classical in 2025, along with traditional funfair rides, stunt shows, and much more. Williams will give visitors the opportunity to test their driving skills and show their speed around Silverstone on our state-of-the-art simulators.
