Strolling around the rather basic, dusty area referred to as the Crystal Palace paddock on a warm sunny morning at the end of May, 1971, you would stumble across some remarkable race cars such as this impressive ex-Trans Am Ford Boss Mustang 302 that its owner, Martin Birrane, had just imported from Kar Kraft in the USA.
The Irish businessman had a taste for big, powerful race cars and would later purchase not only a Lola T70 MkIIIB but also become the owner of Lola Cars Ltd as well as the Irish race circuit, Mondello Park. Under his leadership he revived the fortunes of the company and the race track.
