What a fantastic car, this Alvis Barson Special Straight Eight from 1936. This is not just any automobile, but a true piece of historical and cultural heritage, steeped in British innovation, rarity, and a history of passionate owners who cherished the vehicle. This unique car, the only one of its kind, with its impressive 4.4-liter Alvis engine, is a testament to craftsmanship and technological advancement from the pre-war era.

The story of this Alvis begins in the 1930s, when the car was built on a handcrafted chassis, equipped with independent rear suspension—an advanced technique for its time. In 1938, the car was further enhanced with a Ford rear axle and an Armstrong Siddeley pre-selector gearbox, significantly improving the driving experience. But the most remarkable aspect of this Alvis is undoubtedly the powerful 4.4-liter straight-eight engine, installed in 1940 by the original owner, Mr. E Chalenor Barson. This engine, one of only two ever built, was developed by the brilliant Alvis engineer Mr. A Kemp in 1934 and is the only one still running today. With a top speed of over 193 km/h, this car was a true speed demon in its time. The car goes like the wind, and the experience is almost frightening.

What makes this Alvis Barson Special even more unique is the excellent condition of the chassis and suspension. The car was cherished by its previous owner—a passionate collector and respected member of various prestigious automobile clubs—for over 40 years. The care and attention given to this car are evident in every detail, from the underside of the vehicle to the smoothly operating gearbox.

The exterior of this Alvis Barson Special exudes timeless charm, with a distinguished design that still commands admiration. The lines of the car are elegant and sporty, and the handcrafted chassis and carefully selected components highlight the unique origin of this vehicle. The paintwork is in beautiful condition, with touches of fantastic patina here and there, and details like the chrome accents and wheels add an extra layer of refinement.

Inside, the Alvis is a beautiful example of classic craftsmanship. The interior has been carefully preserved, featuring gorgeous patina and a splendidly original appearance, with high-quality materials that respect the car’s original character. The leather upholstery is in very good condition, and the details on the dashboard and door panels exude an atmosphere of craftsmanship and tradition. The instruments on the dashboard are original and well-maintained, adding to the driving experience this car offers.

Under the hood lives the soul of the car—the 4.4-liter straight-eight Alvis engine. This powerplant, with its innovative valve cluster system, runs smoothly and powerfully, delivering impressive performance that still impresses today. The car proverbially goes like the devil! Of course, driving an Alvis with this power is an experience that is hard to match. Add to that the advanced technology and original details, and you’re driving a car that offers tremendous pleasure. The car has a rich history of participating in hill climbs and other events, reinforcing its status as a true sports icon.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to own a truly unique car, an Alvis Barson Special that not only represents a beautiful piece of automotive history but is also an exceptional collector’s item. With its rare engine, stunning design, and rich history, this car is an indispensable addition to any serious collection of classic cars. Discover this unique Alvis Barson Special and let yourself be carried away by the history and craftsmanship that is evident in every aspect of this exceptional car.

Gallery Aaldering is a family owned business since 1975. Founder Nico Aaldering and his son Nick are responsible for operational and executive management. The company has been in Brummen since 1987 and started on the location where they currently have their second workshop and detailing shop. Nico started very small, with only three employees. People who still work for the company today. The company grew rapidly and established a name for itself based on quality. In the nineties it was time for expansions after many years of selling Alfa Romeo, then Italian cars later on followed by British cars as well. At the end of 2000 Gallery Aaldering moved to the current premises at the Arnhemsestraat in Brummen. This showroom was build according to Nico's idea and sketches and has a Neoclassical style to match the classic cars inside. During this time Nick entered the company after finishing his studies and working for different automotive companies. Gallery Aaldering expanded and gained momentum with the decades of experience offered by Nico and the bright new ideas and progressive vision offered by Nick. The collection became more diverse with an important move upwards to higher segments. Gallery Aaldering has grown to become one of the largest classic car dealers in Europe. There are about 350 classic cars on display on four floors with a Grand Café and special rooms for business meetings. As a family owned business Gallery Aaldering is proud of its history and traditions, but the future is just as important. At the heart of this all is the passion for classic automobiles. For that reason they participate in the most impressive classic car rally in the world, the Mille Miglia. A deeply rooted love for cars. You will find this in both their genes and the identity of this family owned business.
