Our friend Tony Singer from California , who is well know for his world-class automobilia and quality posters shared a wonderful quote from Ken Smith’s book „The Way of the Hermit“ with us on the value of items for your life.
Worth is more than simply the number of dollars an item can bring in the market. The value that the item adds to your life, even an old car or poster, is more important than the financial aspect, and much harder to quantify.
Art is subjective: when you buy a piece, you make a statement that symbolically represents who you are. It is not worth purchasing if it doesn’t inspire or align with your aesthetics. Collecting art for personal enjoyment, rather than purely for investment purposes, is the appreciation of the art, itself, the beauty and complexity, as well as its historical and cultural significance.
Sometimes you just need to get going, with little more than a ‘hope for the best’, and the simply see what happens. Don’t get overwhelmed by where you want to be in a decade from now, just start living as you see fit tomorrow, and then try and do it all again the next day too. You’ll get where you need to go eventually.
Don’t let your life pass you by while you wait for some imagined ‘best time’ in a future with so many unknowns.
