Luigi Chinetti, NART and Ferrari in America By Porter Press

Luigi Chinetti Jr, Doug Nye and Porter Press International are happy to report that progress continues apace upon completion of their eagerly-anticipated book ‘LUIGI CHINETTI – His Saga, Alfa Romeo, NART and Ferrari in America’.

This is to be the only officially-authorised book on the Chinetti dynasty – rightly renowned internationally for its four-time Le Mans 24-Hour race-winning history, plus its supreme motor sporting pedigree with Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Talbot and – indeed – even including involvement with Indy Maserati and Mercedes-Benz too…

This long-awaited and lavish forthcoming book properly celebrates the inside, intimate and personal story of Luigi Chinetti Sr, covering all aspects of his long pre-World War 2 involvement with Alfa Romeo.

It goes on to detail – through painstaking presentation of carefully-preserved contemporary archive documentation – how Luigi Sr’s career morphed into the critical postwar role he played in the very foundation and enduring promotion of the Ferrari company – especially as Mr. Ferrari’s first-appointed sole distributor for the marque in North America.

For the first time this family-backed book – extending to at least two volumes – will present the full story of Luigi Chinetti’s fabled North American Racing Team. It is to be profusely illustrated with previously unseen and private documents, letters, notes and memorabilia preserved for as much as a century (and in several cases even longer) within the confidential Chinetti archive.

Written by pre-eminent motor racing historian Doug Nye in association with respected NART team member/driver/ultimate owner Luigi Chinetti Jr, this forthcoming publishing event unveils the complete and properly detailed official story of America’s ‘Mr. Ferrari’.

Crucially, this official Chinetti book is designed to appeal not only to the committed ‘petrol-head’ audience, but also to the wider general market.

It paints in the social history and atmosphere behind a humble but focused, ambitious and talented Italian achiever finding fame and fortune not only within Europe but especially in post-World War 2 America.

Uniquely, it seeks to reflect the often-romantic lifestyle and times through which Luigi Sr really lived, fought, competed and flourished.

It recalls the nostalgic era of La Belle Epoque in Italy and France 1901-1914, as much as that of the roaring-’20s post-World War 1 in Milan, Paris and the Cote d’Azur.

Beyond the high-style, high-society Paris of the sometimes-turbulent, ultimately catastrophic 1930s, the book also reflects all aspects of the amazingly cosmopolitan, often high-society, immensely sophisticated – sometimes louche! – clientele who sustained Luigi Sr’s Ferrari world in the dominant USA of the 1940s-1990s.

Publication of this extraordinary work is planned for 2025 once the long-pursued research, archive selection, writing – already well advanced – and above all design, are completed.

Be in no doubt, publication of ‘LUIGI CHINETTI – His Saga, Alfa Romeo, NART and Ferrari in America’ will prove to have been worth every moment of the long wait. Keep that space available on the top-quality bookshelf.
