Located along a basalt cliff overlooking the Newport Avenue Dam, Deschutes River House is deeply influenced by the unique landforms of this long, narrow site.
The main hallway zig-zags through the house, forming a series of nestled courtyards and gardens that are visible through inset picture windows.
The river can be heard from every point on the site, and the design serves to edit out the city while capturing peaceful views to the river and treetops.
Client Notes
Design a home that sits at the heart of town while being a refuge from city living — one that balances privacy and coziness with excellent views to the river, the trees, and the gardens.
