As mentioned in my last story about the Goodwood Revival the only disappointing element was the relative absence of the flying displays that are usually part of the weekend.
Like many “petrol heads” I also have a great liking for aeroplanes. They share the same elements of aesthetics, noise, speed and mechanical ingenuity that create so much of the appeal that cars provide.
Fortunately the weekend following the Revival offered the opportunity to visit two airshows that are relatively close to my home. Saturday a journey of about 8 miles took me to Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome – which has the distinction of being the last surviving active airfield from WW1.
Sunday saw a 40 mile run to The Imperial War Museum at Duxford.
Sunday’s was a much larger event in all respects – not least of which because the aircraft flying on Saturday were scale models rather than the full size items featured on Sunday.
