February: 488 PISTA SPIDER
In 2019, the 488 Pista Spider is Ferrari’s 50th open-top model and is also the most powerful Spider in history with the best-ever power-to-weight ratio of 1.92 kg/hp. It combines technologies for the racetrack with the joy of open-top driving.
March: 315 S
Such aesthetics define many a racing driver’s workspace prior to the carbon era. This one enjoys the ultimate fame: When he places second in the last Mille Miglia in 1957, Graf Berghe von Trips is gripping the steering wheel of this Ferrari 315 S.
April: LAFERRARI
The moment of which the seraphim sing: The LaFerrari at sunrise in front of Enzo Ferrari’s house in the middle of the Fiorano Circuit. Followed by grander music when the nearly 1,000 hp of the mighty twelve-cylinder engine roar on the track.
May: P4 SPIDER
The most beautiful racing car of all time — and not just to me! The dramatic interplay of convex and concave shapes is unique. Despite narrowly missing a victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the P4s still win the 1967 World Sportscar Championship.
June: 312 F1-69
The wild beast, alone in an empty cage. The contrast between the slender body and the voluminous wheels creates its exceptional aesthetics. Crowned by the “spaghetti exhaust”, whose artful design ensures the supreme optimization in performance.
July: 250 GT SPECIALE
The prototype created by Pinin Farina based on a 250 GT is the show car at the 1956 Geneva Motor Show and later in Turin. In 1959, it goes to consummately renowned collectors in the USA and has an impressive career at the Concours d’Elégances.
August: 315 S
Four overhead camshafts, 12 cylinders, dual ignition and 12 carburetors! An engine as the ultimate work of art. It takes first and second place at the 1957 Mille Miglia, but de Portago takes 11 others to their deaths in his deadly accident earlier.
September: 812 SUPERFAST
In 2018, the 812 Superfast sets new performance benchmarks across the board. The 6.5-liter V12 builds on Ferrari’s racing expertise. Also perfect in terms of design: a sophisticated transaxle architecture with front engine and rear transmission.
October: F2001
The best car and the best driver: In 2001, Michael Schumacher defends his first World Championship title for the Scuderia, won the previous year, with nine victories. Here the F2001 is parked in front of Enzo Ferrari’s house on the Pista di Fiorano.
November: F40
The F40 debuts in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary. The V8 turbocharged engine reveals a level of performance that was previously unimaginable. The F40 is the last car in whose presentation Enzo Ferrari takes part before he dies in August 1988.
December: 250 GTO
In 1962, this white 250 GTO goes to John Coombs, who puts it to successful use in English races with such legendary drivers as Roy Salvadori, Graham Hill and Mike Parkes among others. It has been with the renowned collector Jon Shirley since 1999.
GÜNTHER RAUPP: VISION – PASSION – EXPERIENCE
Günther Raupp studies painting and art history at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. He discovers his penchant for photography during his art studies. The first solo photographic exhibitions of the young art student take place soon after, among painting exhibitions and material images. For eight months the famous Staatsgalerie Stuttgart hosts an exciting audiovisual project on Venice by the then 25-year-old artist, comprising experimental photography, avant-garde electronic and jazz music. He then adds interest with unusual advertising spots and videos, followed by photographic commissions for his first automobile customers. Günther shoots campaigns, brochures and magazines for Audi, Buick, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo and others.
From a young age, Günther cultivates his passion for Ferrari. He makes his dream of buying a Dino 246 Spider come true and in 1984 creates his first self-published Ferrari calendar. Commendatore Enzo Ferrari congratulates Günther on his first edition and thanks him for the calendar that he had received.
This marks the start of the history of a calendar that is today highly sought-after by Ferrari enthusiasts around the world. His unique, unmistakable photographic style and the unequalled reproduction quality of the images in his calendars convince the most famous Ferrari collectors to open the gates of their precious collections exclusively to him.
Günther soon achieves his goal of an international profile. Studio shootings sometimes last weeks, for example in London, Madrid, Turin, Hollywood, Chicago, Detroit and New York. Besides, the unforgettable outdoor shoots like sunrise in Monument Valley/Utah with a real lion (“Joseph”) for Peugeot UK and for other clients in Sierra Nevada, the Arctic Circle, the Sinai Peninsula, Lanzarote, California, Paris, Liguria, Antibes and on Lake Garda. This is not only an organisational challenge for Günther, but also an honour and a great experience in creating immortal images together with internationally renowned partners. “Every time you come back, you’re a different man.”
His interest goes far beyond the simple realisation of images. His passion is to create a perfect media implementation. His deep technical knowledge and perfected graphic design skills allow him to create three complete large format photo books for the publisher teNeues, all three supplied ready to print. The exclusive works on Ferrari and Pininfarina win numerous international awards.
Günther simply loves being a photographer, every day, and on every project. His profession involves applying technology in an innovative way and interpreting software updates for the very latest effects. The most important inventions in the history of photography are made in the first five years. “They include the decision of ‘point of view, time and crop’. And, despite all the technological innovations over the almost 200 year development of the camera, the most important accessory still is: my eye! Add software, creativity and experience to create pictures that excite and convey a pure, clean message.”
