Goodwood and Sir Stirling Moss. Two names that go together so well you’d think that Stirling had been born here and just never left. Rarely has anyone been so associated with one single track. Stirling not only book-ended his top-level career in West Sussex, he returned the day that Goodwood returned.
Stirling continued to race at the Goodwood Revival until he decided his time in the competitive cockpit was over, at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2011 – at the age of 81. Even after that he was a regular at Revival and the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard until he retired from public life last year.
Goodwood has picked out some of their favourite Stirling and Goodwood moments from the last nearly 30 years in memory of ‘Mr Goodwood’. It shows the incredible breadth of Stirling’s talent that it’s hard to find any connection between the cars on show here other than Moss himself. You’ll find one-off single-seaters, cars that were named after him and cars he set records in. You’ll find him hustling an XK120 up the Festival Hill like he was in his prime and sliding a Maserati 250F in incredible style in the wet.
We’ll miss you Stirling!
