The unbelievable 14th issue of this great show took place on the first august weekend as usual at the lovely and romantic Schloss Dyck nearby Düsseldorf. The organisation team around Marcus Herfort were able to create as the years before a fantastic event with a huge range of rare collectors cars.
For the first time the Masterpiece and Style Concours and the Classic Days took place at the same weekend. So the show was more stronger and important for everyone.
To 50th anniversary of the Porsche 917 there were two 917 entering the track and giving a taster of their racing performance and a their incredible sound. Also Arturo Merzario, since the last three years a permanent guest, gave the spectators a lesson in driving fast on a the nearly triangle circuit. He drove an Alfa Romeo T33 which was without a doubt the loudest car on track.
So many cars and drivers on the track have fun driving their collectors cars. When they came back after three or four laps they all had a big smile on their face. The Schloss Dyck Classic Days are one of the finest events in continental Europe. The atmosphere is always very good. It is almost like a family meeting in the own garden. A perfect and very beautiful garden with a very tasteful castle and flowers in full bloom.
The Masterpiece and Style Concour was as great as every year. So many one off cars were presented there. For example the Lancia Sport Zagats Prototipo from 1964 were presented. The car with chassis number 0001 is a one off. It is based on the Lancia Fulvia with the prototype coachbuilding of a Flavia which was build by Zagato. A works racing car with only one race start at the Targa Florio 1964. This car has only two owners the first one was the Lancia works pilot Claudio Magnioli. Engine and Chassis are original. The car was only 2400 km driven an is a real beauty with the attitude of early sportscar design.
Another special car was a Ferrari 330 America. The car belongs to the range of the 250 GTE (2+2 Coupé). The last fifty of the whole production of 950 250 GTE were build with a 4-liter engine and became the name 330 America. The car which was presented at the Masterpiece and Style stand for 45 years and wasn’t used The new owner did not restore the car completely. Instead of this the whole elements of the car like the painting, the seats and everything were preserved.
Not new parts, but preservation of the cultural value with all the patina of age were done at this car. So this car was a great example of going this way to preserve and nit to restore.
“If you never be at the Schloss Duck Classic Days, you don’t know what you missing. Maybe my pictures give you a few impressions and you save the date for 2020. Traditionally the first weekend of vAugust is Schlot Dyck time. Don’t miss it.” Ralph Lueker
