The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was presented for the first time at the International Motor Sports Show in New York in February 1954. The number 300 stands for the cubic capacity – SL is the short cut for super-light.
In 1999, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was voted “Sports Car of the Century” by the readers of the classic car magazine “Motor-Klassik”. In April 2018 while the “A Gentle Drivers Trophy” for the City of Stuttgart at the Hockenheimring, the 1955 300 SL was piloted by Christian Pfessdorf (Pfessdorf Historic Racing).
