While the Goodwood Festival of Speed is centred around the hillclimb that wends its way around the roads that serve the Goodwood House estate there is plenty of action to be found away from the main event.
Notable amongst these are 3 sections;- for rally cars, off road vehicles and the Goodwood Action Sports (GAS) arena that features MotoX machines.
The Rally stage is held within some beautiful woods that lie within the estate. They create a great atmosphere and also a dry place to hide from the famous English rain that turns up from time to time.
Rally cars of all sorts take part, ranging from the latest WRC contestants to many of the classics that competed in the latter part of the last century.
They provide a great venue for amateur photographers – with all the following shots being taken from positions that are freely accessible to the public.
The woods slope down towards Goodwood House and as you emerge from the trees the sights and sounds of highly specialised off road vehicles negotiating the boulders and mounds that have been strewn around what has become a muddy field regale you.
Closer to the House is the GAS arena where MotoX riders can be seen performing seemingly impossible aerobatics while flying through the air is quite awe inspiring.
All three are areas are worth a visit.
