1973 Lola 292 – Cosworth DFV 3.0L The only example of a T292 delivered by the Lola factory in 3-litre specification for the Cosworth DFV engine. Early in-period race history with Walter Lehmann and Ruedi Jauslin with both Cosworth DFV and Renault V6 engines prior to the car being bought by Peter Kaus of the Rosso Bianco Collection in 1984. Sold by Rosso Bianco collection in 2006 to Lord Irvine Laidlaw and sympathetically restored by Simon Hadfield Motorsport. Sold by Laidlaw in 2010 and then maintained by Pearson Engineering.

Remarkably original with original monocoque, gearbox and bodywork Multiple Le Mans Classic entrant and eligible for every historic race event such as Peter Auto’s CER2, Pre-80 Endurance and others where it is a unique and front running car. This very Lola T292 was supplied new with chassis tag HU50 to Lola agent Bonnier in Switzerland on the 24th of April 1973 as a special project car in red colour and equipped with a Cosworth DFV engine and FGA gearbox as listed on invoice 2191. Shortly thereafter, HU50 was bought by its 1st owner Walter Lehmann who would only race the car twice in 1973 and kept it without any further races until 1978 when he sold it to Swiss Ruedi Jauslin. Contrary to Lehmann, Jauslin used HU50 regularly in both hill-climbs and race events in various engine and bodywork configurations until 1984 when the car – equipped with a 2 litre Renault V6 engine – was sold to Peter Kaus of the Rosso Bianco collection in Germany where it remained untouched until December 2006 when the car was auctioned by Bonhams at their London Olympia sale. HU50 was bought by Robert Parker who shortly thereafter (2007) sold the car to well known collector and historic racer Lord Ervine Laidlaw. Laidlaw immediately tasked Simon Hadfield Motorsport to race prepare the car and – while doing so – it was found that the car was in exceptional original and un-molested condition causing the restoration to become a sympathetic preservation project wherever possible.

Crack testing done, fuel cells replaced, a period-correct long-stroke DFV engine was sourced and rebuilt by Geoff Richardson Engineering, the original FGA gearbox rebuilt and the car repainted in Lord Laidlaw’s burgundy with silver stripe colour. HU50 was then campaigned by Laidlaw on the European historic racing scene including Le mans Classic 2008, quite often beating the competition. After having campaigned the car for two seasons HU50 was sold in 2010 to fellow historic racer and collector Carlos Monteverde who has campaigned HU50 at various Peter Auto events including Le Mans Classic 2014, CER2 races at Paul Ricard and many other events across Europe. Maintenance of the car was done by Pearson Engineering and the engine by Geoff Richardson.

Most recently, the car has been returned to its correct “white with tri-coloured stripes” livery and DFV airbox as raced by Ruedi Jauslin. HU50 was then bought in 2018 by a German owner who has not been able to race car, and subsequently sold it. Not surprisingly given its past owners and preparers, HU50 is in excellent, race-ready condition with belts, fuel cell and fire systems all current and the DFV engine having not more than 6 hours on it. The car will need the standard required crack-testing, comes with a current 2017 FIA HTP and a good spares package. With the 2019 race season approaching, HU50 continues to be ready to shine again in all the events it is eligible for such as Peter Auto’s CER2, Le Mans Classic and HSCC’s Pre-80 Endurance. Spares Package includes the following: Complete rear section incl rear wing Gear ratios (1x1st gear, 6 x 2nd gear plus 12 other gears.) Some spare suspension( front fits both sides) Driveshafts Silenced exhaust Old radiators Headlight covers Set dampers Brake ducting 2 x sets wheels (one with new slicks).
