1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso

This Ferrari 250 Lusso is a perfect example – a breathtaking beauty.

The Ferrari 250 had a wide variety of body styles and also had two different wheelbase lengths. This ranged from race ‘Berlinettas’ to refined and graceful models with the choice between a coupe and convertible. Aesthetically, this Lusso is one of the highlights of the 250. What a magnificent sight!

The 250 GT/L, with the “L” for Lusso (or luxury), was the last version of the 250 GT. Ferrari positioned this model as a luxury GT, with a very elegant and streamlined body, designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti. Ferrari had the Lusso made of steel, with the hood and doors made of aluminium. It is perhaps the epitome of the design of a perfect sports car and remains according to many one of the most beautiful creations Ferrari ever produced.

Ferrari supplied the Lusso with the short wheelbase and under the hood lies the famous V12 Colombo engine. Why Colombo? Because the famous Ferrari engineer Gioacchino Colombo designed the engine. There were some modifications made for the Lusso. For instance, the engine now had single ported cylinders, as found on the competition cars. This would be the last Ferrari with a twelve-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.0 litres.

The Lusso also benefited from a number of chassis improvements, derived from the 250 SWB and GTO competition cars. The interior of the Lusso had door panels and bucket seats covered in leather, and a completely unique dashboard layout that was never offered on any other Ferrari.

Only 350 examples of the 250 GT/L were built, and the model has become one of the most sought-after classic Ferraris ever built. As the ultimate luxury version of the groundbreaking 250 GT, the Lusso is now considered one of Ferrari’s most celebrated models, rightly appreciated by the public.

This example dates from 1963 and the first owner, Mrs. Botticini from Brescia, ordered this Ferrari and had it delivered to the famous Ferrari dealer Crepaldi in Milan, Italy. This 250 has a very well documented history, which allowed us to establish that this Lusso was in the possession of Mr. Granata from Pennsylvania, USA for 30 years. In 1988, Mr. Berg from Sweden acquired the Lusso and owned the car for 25 years.

This is a high level fully restored and mechanically overhauled example. Mr. Berg had this Ferrari completely restored and revised in Italy by renowned addresses. Bacchelli & Villa restored the bodywork entirely. Then, Mr. Berg had the technology completely overhauled at Modena Motori, and the interior was meticulously handled by Luppi. Gallery Aaldering can therefore undoubtedly conclude that they are dealing with an excellent example that was restored and revised by the right specialists professionally.

In addition, this example is fully matching numbers, demonstrably through the extensive documentation present with this Lusso. This includes the Ferrari Classiche Certified (Ferrari Red Book) and the Marcel Massini report.

This example drives incredibly well and is a dream for any enthusiast of (classic) cars.
