The Special Requests Department celebrated Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s 90th birthday in style with the presentation of a collector’s item.

On 11 December 2025, Ferdinand Alexander ‘Butzi’ Porsche would have turned 90. The visionary designer created the timeless 911 and the charismatic 904. To mark this milestone birthday, Porsche launched the 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche special edition, limited to 90 units. The presentation, attended by just 25 international journalists, took place in the Special Requests department. Two things became clear to Tobias Aichele that evening: the sheer endless potential of this department for special requests – and the importance of Butzi’s youngest son Mark as a representative of the Porsche legend.

The motto of the 100-strong department headed by Alexander Fabig is: ‘You dream it, we build it.’ Mark was allowed to dream up a special model that his father would have liked – and Special Requests demonstrated the potential and diversity of this special department in bringing it to life. Currently, customers can choose from around 1,000 predefined options. The ‘Colour of your choice’ programme allows more than 190 colours to be configured. However, this offer was not sufficient for the Butzi project, for example. For special requests, there is the ‘Colour of Your Choice Plus’ programme. After many meetings and colour samples, the family decided on a shade of green that reflected the colours of his favourite cars – which, incidentally, included a Land Rover and a 1988 Carrera. The Porsche in ‘Brewster Green’ was the inspiration for the special model, but not the only one.

Of course, the guests at the presentation were initially surprised to see a jacket hanging next to the limited-edition GT3, but Mark explained: ‘My father’s favourite jacket served as the basis for the interior and is part of my childhood memories of my father.’ Sonderwunsch therefore had a five-colour fabric woven: black, green, truffle brown, crema and Bordeaux. Christened ‘F. A. Grid-Weave’, it adorns the seat centre panels, the glove compartment and the reversible boot mat.
Another special feature are the wheels, painted in black silk gloss and inspired by the classic Fuchs rim. In combination with the central locks and wheel hub covers bearing the historic 1963 coat of arms, this feature is also a real treat, and Mark made it clear: ‘My father liked the Fuchs rims – which he designed with his colleague Heinrich Klie for the 1966 911 S – so much that he had them fitted to his private 904.’ Incidentally, this car graced the dinner in the museum workshop that evening.
The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche will be available to order from April 2026 at a price of €351,211 and can be individually configured. An exclusive special edition of the long-legendary Chronograph I is included as a tribute to the designer’s early days. Together with his brother Hans-Peter, he founded the design studio in Zell am See in 1972 under the name ‘Porsche Design’. The objects he created there, such as wristwatches, sunglasses, pipes and motorcycle helmets, quickly became classics. And in fact, a wristwatch for Porsche employees was his very first commission. The shell-shaped sports sled, also shown as a prototype, dates back to the 1960s. The new edition is made of carbon fibre.
Nothing has been left to chance in this anniversary project; everything has been historically accurately embedded by Mark Porsche and skilfully implemented according to special requests – which, incidentally, cannot be said of all special models, such as the 911 Spirit 70.

Before concluding, I would like to say that I was very fortunate to have had wonderful and memorable encounters with Butzi Porsche at the Porsche Villa, the Porsche Design Studio and Prielau Castle. Against this backdrop, it was a great pleasure for me to see how his youngest son Mark incorporated his very special father’s preferences and tastes into this project, thereby creating a significant work for posterity. This will be particularly well received internationally in the traditional Porsche world. The fact that the ‘One of 90’ will find its home at the ‘Flat6Ranch’ is the icing on the cake for this special project. The new meeting place or museum, which Mark has created in Zell in memory of his father, will open in 2026. But that’s another story.
