The entry list for the 1967 Autosport Trophy race would, in 2025, read like a race organiser’s dream line-up, one that would guarantee a huge amount of interest with thousands of spectators passing through the entry gates of the Snetterton circuit. Any race with no less than five Ferrari 250 LM’s in the entry list, plus Porsche 904 and 906 entries, should be worth the entrance fee.
But a race that also features entries from eight Ford GT40 teams and drivers is not to be missed. The photograph (above) shows four of the eight GT40s lined up in the paddock. From left to right: GT40 P/1026, entered by Dawnay Racing for Mike Salmon, GT40 P/1001 entered by Sid Taylor for Denny Hulme, GT40 P/1023 entered by Malcolm Gartlan, driven by John Harris, and GT40 P/1005 privately entered and driven by Terry Drury. (The other four GT40s were: ‘1017’ driven by Ron Fry, ‘1022’ driven by Eric Liddell, ‘1009’ driven by Ed Nelson and the ex-Alan Mann lightweight GT40, ‘AMGT-2’ driven by Paul Hawkins). At the end of the 15-lap race, Paul Hawkins took victory with Denny Hulme a close second, followed by Mike Salmon in third place and John Harris fifth. The remaining GT40 in the photograph failed to finish due to Drury and Liddell being involved in a collision on the first lap.
