Visiting Lake Como is never a bad idea, the Mediterranean atmosphere settled into the green hills around the crisp blue water, this place is magical. However, as the temperatures start to rise and the summer already peaks around the corner, it is time to dive into the most outstanding weekend of the year. The Concorso d’ Eleganza on Villa d’ Este yet alone guaranties goosebumps every year anew but with the Fuori Concorso and Wheels&Weiswürscht taking place at the same weekend the foundation for a exceptional time is excelled.
Three Car Events, Lake Como, One weekend
To kick of the two-day madness, it was time to visit the Fuori Concorso. This year not only with one but two topics to fascinate young and old. The new concept at the public Villa Olmo presents an open museum showing a different car collection each year. This year, the Museo Nazionale de’ll Automobile di Torino showing a great composition of Italian refinement like the Bizzarini GT Europa from 1965.
On Villa Del Grumello and Sucota it was all about the Sonderwunsch. The finest selection of tailor-made Porsche you most likely haven’t seen before displayed in the majestic park always with the glimpse of the lake in the background. One of the many headturners was the pearl-white Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster Concept that, although it is from 1987, looks like a spaceship out of a cartoon. Strolling through the breathtaking area of the villas it almost feels like these exclusive pieces belong here, no wonder as the head of the event, Guglielmo Miani, not only has a good eye for exhibiting cars but also for choosing them, such like his very own Porsche 911 993 Turbo.
While hesitating to leave Porsche heaven, you already find yourself in the shuttle to Villa d’ Este. The joy of air conditioning and quietness however doesn’t last long, as you enter the gates of what has to be one of the most scenic grounds at Lake Como. Before you even get a chance to acclimate yourself, you are welcomed by the screaming roar of a Ferrari F40 LM making its way to the parade. Glistening in the sun with the fume of fuel in the air and the exquisite pieces of rolling art driving by, you lose every relation to reality and hope this beautiful madness never ends. The diversity of cars ranges from a factory fresh Porsche 959S with only 500 kilometers on the clock to the one-off Aston Martin Bulldog and even to Sophia Loren’s very Mercedes 300SL. The story behind every car, that was told by Simon Kidston, made the already fascinating sculptures even more outstanding.
Still nowhere close to realizing what you’ve witnessed today and the alarm already sets of for Sunday. On today’s schedule: Wheels&Weiswürscht. A gathering for all kinds of cars organized by BMW Classic to show the diversity of the worldwide car culture. The location for this very different kind of event was the park around Villa Erba which gave this public event the perfect background for a day to calm down in the most beautiful way, at Lake Como.
See you next year!
