The Vintage Sports-Car Club (VSCC) started holding races meetings at Donington Park in the late 1930’s and following the restoration of the track have continued to hold events there since the late 1970’s.
The club always attracts a range of eclectic and, sometimes eccentric vehicles that are a joy to behold. Drivers are often exposed to the elements, as are the “oily bits” of the machines that carry them. This meeting was no exception. There were numerous MG’s, Alfa’s, Cooper’s and Riley’s, and no less that eleven Bugatti’s alongside a number of much lesser known makes and some purely “one off” vehicles.
This year’s event was cut short following the tragic and untimely death of Julian Grimwade – about whom I wrote weeks ago.
Julian was a lover of interesting and unusual cars and always appreciated seeing photographs of them. So here a a few of those that were briefly on view in the paddock and track – starting with one of his own Oakland Romano Special ( taken the previous month at Goodwood ), which is surely one of the most interesting and attractive cars ever to grace a race track.
