Porsche-Diesel At Schloss Solitude

Following last year’s resounding success between the lifestyle outdoor trade fair Home & Garden and Solitude GmbH, which specialises in special themes, this special cooperation will be continued. This year, a Porsche Diesel meeting will take place as part of Home & Garden at Schloss Solitude from 16 to 18 August 2024. A reminder: last year, memories were brought back to the 120th anniversary of the race track on the outskirts of Stuttgart.

The historic grounds around the Rococo Palace will be transformed into a paradise for lovers of the upscale lifestyle for the third time. In 2024, inspiration and enjoyment will once again be the top priorities. Exquisite products and services relating to good living, home and garden, fashion and style, art and cuisine will be skilfully staged on the extensive green areas.

Historic tractors with their great appeal and the Home & Garden are a perfect match. The red noses, as they are usually affectionately called by their owners, always bring a smile to the faces of onlookers and usually get the thumbs up. Children get big eyes and shout “The little red tractor”. The children’s series from England (from 2004), which was broadcast on the children’s channel KIKA for many years, is still extremely popular. The series is set in the surroundings of the fictitious rural village of Plätscherbach. It tells the story of the experiences of a small red tractor of an older model and its driver, Jan the farmer, as they help their neighbours out of big and small emergencies.

Today, adults in particular “play” with the Red Noses – and even race them. Last year, there were two international competitions with Porsche diesel vehicles: at the Kilomètre LancĂ© acceleration race in St. Moritz and a few weeks later at the Porsche Reunion in California.
A Porsche diesel also wrote a little piece of history at the Solitude races. Porsche PR boss and race director Huschke von Hanstein made a surprising appearance to draw attention to the range of Porsche designs. After the practice session of the 1961 Solitude Race, he drove into the centre of the paddock with the Porsche Diesel Type Super and the attached harvest wagon. The racing baron had invited all the Formula 1 drivers to his home for dinner. The following racing drivers were seated on the garlanded trailer: the eventual winner Innes Ireland, Stirling Moss, Jim Clark and Michael May as well as the Porsche works drivers Dan Gurney, Joakim Bonnier, Edgar Barth and Hans Herrmann.

A varied programme is planned for Home & Garden meets Porsche diesel tractors. During the three days, the event will be based on the grounds of the castle’s restaurant, which will be transformed into a paddock. Porsche diesel prototypes will be on display in the historic sheds and themed exhibitors will be able to position themselves in this environment. On Friday, 16 August 2024, a drive around the former Porsche racetrack with a stop at the original start and finish hut is planned.

On Saturday, 17 August 2024, the tractors will be guests at the Porsche Museum between 13:00 and 16:00. Finally, the theme on Sunday is “Porsche diesel meets friends”. On this day, all tractor brands are welcome at Solitude Palace.

As in the previous year, a bridge will be built to the city of Stuttgart with a convoy from Stuttgart to Solitude Palace. This will be escorted by historic motorbikes from the Stuttgart Police Museum. A selection of Porsche tractors will follow the Rau riders, as will the Mercedes-Benz O 3500 bus from the Konrad Auwärter Museum, incidentally the original team bus of the 1954 national football team. The crowning glory will be an original Porsche diesel service car and vintage ADAC cars.

To the surprise of the guests, the first mobile HVO 100 petrol station in Germany, a VW T 3, will also be at the departure point. His Royal Highness Prince Leopold of Bavaria will personally refuel the vehicles in the convoy with synthetic fuels, thus setting an example for environmentally friendly mobility. Representatives of the Ministry of the Environment and the City of Stuttgart as well as a number of prominent guests with a penchant for historic horsepower are expected to take part in the event.

Porsche tractor enthusiasts from South Tyrol, the Allgäu and the Lake Constance region have already confirmed their attendance at Schloss Solitude from 15 to 18 August 2024 – and are showing no fear. Some of them are travelling on the road. They will be taking part with the Porsche diesel model series with one, two, three or four cylinders.
