  • RM Sotheby’s’ Monterey auction highlights on display at Sotheby’s New York location for the month of July
  • 1970 Porsche 917 K and 1959 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Coupe Series III by Pinin Farina offered 13-14 August in Monterey

An undeniable icon in period motorsports and film history alike, the 1970 Porsche 917 K – the “winning car” in Steve McQueen’s Le Mans – is no mere picture car. It was a genuine contender for victory during the real 24 Hours of Le Mans before the race claimed the car. With full restoration to its original livery, the car now boasts a sound like no other and presents exactly as it would have 51 years ago. The Porsche 917 K is “spot on” and maintained as if a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans or, another film role, is its next event (Estimate: $16,000,000 – $18,500,000).

The 1959 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Coupe Series III by Pinin Farina is just one of 12 Series III 410 Superamericas produced and is truly one of the ultimate Ferraris. This Superamerica is hitting the road in style as chassis no. 1305 SA boasts several special features, including competition-style covered headlamps and unique rear fenders with one-off taillights. Prominently featured in Dyke W. Ridgley’s Ferrari 410 Superamerica Series III, this example is one of the ultimate road-going Ferraris of the Jet Age (Estimate: $6,000,000 – $8,000,000).

These outstanding consignments are set to cross the block at the flagship auction in Monterey, 13-14 August. They will be on display and open to the public for viewing at Sotheby’s New York location throughout the month of July.
