McLaren Racing’s Famous Five At Silverstone Festival

McLaren Racing is supporting the very special World Champions Collection at this summer’s Silverstone Festival (22-24 August). The record-breaking team’s participation ensures five of its title winners are well represented in the showcase celebrating the milestone 75th anniversary of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

The Silverstone Festival World Champions Collection will star iconic cars raced by all 34 title winners at the circuit where the global series was born back in 1950.

It will be the first time that such a display has ever been assembled and a fitting salute to F1’s remarkable heritage not only lauding all its champions but also timelining the sport’s ever-changing technologies.

No fewer than seven of those 34 World Champions were McLaren drivers and, thanks to the support of McLaren Racing, five of these seven will be represented at Silverstone.

Over the past 75 years McLaren’s success is unrivalled since the team founded by Bruce McLaren first entered the championship at Monaco in 1966.

In total, seven McLaren drivers have amassed no fewer than 12 titles between them. Emerson Fittipaldi was the first in 1974, followed by James Hunt in 1976 and Niki Lauda in 1984. Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna then shared six further titles between 1985 and 1991 before Mika Häkkinen took back-to-back crowns in 1998 and 1999. Lewis Hamilton is McLaren’s most recent World Champion in 2008. Over the past 50 seasons, McLaren has also bagged nine Constructors’ Championships, most recently in 2024.

Ensuring its champions are very well represented in this unique display, McLaren Racing is generously providing no fewer than five of its illustrious title winners as raced by James Hunt, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen and Sir Lewis Hamilton in their title winning campaigns. McLaren’s other two champions – Emerson Fittipaldi and Niki Lauda – will also be represented in the display.

“We are very grateful for this incredible support from McLaren,” enthused Nick Wigley, Event Director. “McLaren has an amazing record of title winning successes in F1 and its only right that they should be so well represented in our World Champions Collection. The cars all have a great provenance and will be a brilliant addition to our anniversary celebrations at Silverstone Festival.”

McLaren is equally excited to be displaying its unrivalled record of success at the home of the British Grand Prix over the Festival weekend.

“It’s fantastic to be able to provide such a great collection of our title winners for the Silverstone Festival World Champions Collection,” said Piers Thynne, Chief Operating Officer at McLaren Formula 1 Team. “Celebrating our legacy is a key part of McLaren’s culture, and something we’re very proud of as a team. We look forward to seeing the showcase.”

While the World Champions Collection will be the most high profile attraction marking the 75th anniversary of Formula 1 over the Bank Holiday weekend at the Festival, the historic circuit will also host five epic races commemorating this major milestone. Four of these will revive golden epochs of F1 from the front-engined pioneers of the fifties right up to the epic DFV era of sixties, seventies and early eighties.

Harking back to the landmark 1950 British Grand Prix meeting, this year’s Festival will also feature a record-breaking grid of 500cc F3 cars – the pint-sized single-seaters that, 75 years ago, acted as the curtain-raiser for the world’s very first points-scoring World Championship F1 race.

For all those not wanting to miss the spectacular World Champions Collection, a wide selection of tickets is available including camping and hospitality options with best prices for those purchasing now. There is also a special 2-for-1 ticket offer for car club members booking to display their cherished classic through one of the 100+ registered car clubs – but only for those booking before the end of July.

Taking place over the end-of-summer Bank Holiday weekend, the Festival is packed with activities for all ages and accompanied children aged 15 and under can attend free. All tickets give access to an incredible line-up of family-friendly entertainment including live music from Natasha Bedingfield, Craig David presents TS5, and Ministry of Sound Classical in 2025, plus traditional funfair rides, stunt shows and loads more.
