The lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren, the new V8-engined, rear-wheel drive 750S – which is available simultaneously in coupe and convertible form – is unashamedly a supercar for the purist. Designed and engineered following meticulous analysis of the renowned McLaren 720S, the new 750S combines advances in weight-saving, powertrain performance, aerodynamics and dynamic excellence to elevate a benchmark driving experience to new heights. Around 30 per cent of 750S components are either new or changed in order to deliver these improvements and with them an even greater emotional connection to the car.
McLaren’s philosophy of super-lightweight engineering is inherent in the new 750S. The McLaren 750S Spider has an inherent advantage over rival open-top supercars built with aluminium and steel because of the inherent stiffness and rigidity advantages of carbon fibre. The Spider needs no additional strengthening, and the changes from the coupe – the Retractable Hard Top (RHT), integrated rollover protection system and bespoke rear upper structure – are all constructed from carbon fibre. The new convertible supercar weighs just 1,438kg, 30kg less than the 720S Spider. Its weight in dry lightest guise is 1,326kg.
The beating heart of the 750S continues the lineage of McLaren’s multiple-award-winning V8 engine series with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 powertrain which gains 30 horsepower and 22lb-ft of torque over the 720S, and reaches 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, with top speeds of 332 km/h (206 mph). To fully utilise its increased power and performance, the 750S features a 6mm wider front track, upgraded springs, custom twin valve dampers with both passive and active elements, a faster steering ratio, and a unique Power Assisted Steering pump. The four-corner double-wishbone suspension with aluminium arms has also been updated with revised geometry and tuning. These engineering enhancements provide exceptional body control and unprecedented ride comfort, without any compromises.
The headlights of the car subtly peek out of the front of the Carbon Fibre Monocage body structure and a closer look reveals the aerodynamic features hidden within the design, with channels running through the doors and creases from the hood feeding into the flying buttress B-pillars. An abundance of mesh and open space above the diffuser, allows for a clear view of the rear subframe, transmission, and exhaust components and shows that this McLaren means business. The 750S now emits a supercar-worthy engine sound that is loud and powerful thanks to its all-new central-exit Standard Sports Exhaust. With throaty and bassy howl notes only further enhanced when lifting off in Sport mode, enough to fill the driver with goosebumps from head to toes.
The interior of the 750S has the same dramatic focus, unlike the 720S, it has been fitted with a more-user friendly cockpit with a sleek, clear digital cluster and convenient rocker switches built into the outside corners of the shade hood, making the switch between drive mode and chassis stiffness selection seamless and intuitive for the driver. The Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel is free of unnecessary buttons and switches, with only shift paddles visible, a perfect example of purposeful design for the pure act of driving.
This fine 1:8 scale model of the McLaren 750S Spider is finished in Papaya Spark with a Carbon and Papaya interior. It has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops using detailed colour and material specifications, and original CAD data supplied directly from McLaren Automotive. The use of supremely accurate digital scanning of the original car has allowed us to perfectly recreate every detail at scale. Furthermore, it has undergone detailed scrutiny by both engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.
