To the surprise of many, the more agile and light Alfa Romeo won ahead of the Ferrari and the first 917 K. The Martini 917 K that finished ninth, driven by Gijs van Lennep and Gérard Larrousse, had been fitted with new snorkel-type intake manifolds on a trial basis.
