Duncan Wiltshire’s “Motor Racing Legends” organise a series of meetings throughout the season and holds its year end event at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.
For last year’s meeting my wife and I decided to try out the recently opened Marriott hotel that overlooks the pit straight. A quick walk over a bridge takes you right into the heart of British motor racing – very convenient, though no doubt prohibitively expensive during the Formula 1 Grand Prix week.
Like all Legends meetings, there was an eclectic range of cars competing – from Mini’s to Mustangs and Cortina’s to Corvettes. Most are based on road cars that, those of us over a certain age, can relate to. They often bringing back memories of seeing them pass by in our day to day lives.
The weather was also quite eclectic – ranging from being misty to sunny to cloudy to rainy. This can be very challenging for drivers but, thankfully, the races were reasonably incident free.
A great end to the British season of major classic car races – leaving me, for one, anxiously waiting for the April 2024 when things kick off again.
