Ferrari SC40: A One-Off Inpired By F40

The Special Projects Programme unveils a unique 296 GTB with a 1980s supercar obsession.

Ferrari SC40: A One-Off Inpired By F40

This is the Ferrari SC40, a One-Off from the Special Projects Programme that takes inspiration from the iconic F40 supercar.

Unveiled in Maranello on 17 October 2025 and commissioned by an exclusive client, the SC40 is based on the mid-rear-engined 296 GTB and shares its architecture, rear-wheel drive chassis and V6 turbo-hybrid powertrain. Yet while the SC40’s mechanical underpinnings are familiar, every line, surface, and detail has been meticulously reimagined in homage to the 1987 supercar.

The reference points are immediately striking. A long, low nose and short rear overhangs are complemented by a high-level fixed rear wing that extends vertically from the engine cover for an instantly recognisable silhouette.

Detail references include smoked Lexan® louvres and open-mesh rear fascia to help cool the powerful turbocharged engine. SC40 script is engraved in relief on the side of the rear wing, while the side profile is dominated by triangular carbon-fibre accents and large intercooler air intakes – a modern reinterpretation of the classic NACA ducts and louvres that defined the F40’s form.

Yet the SC40 is no literal reinterpretation. Under Flavio Manzoni, the Ferrari Styling Centre has fused these iconic cues with contemporary forms, resulting in a berlinetta that is muscular and precise, yet also fluid and organic. Vertical lines define the front wings, door cuts, and engine cover, while – at the front – headlights placed at the outer corners of the bonnet, a full-width lower air intake, and rectangular brake intakes endow the SC40 with unmistakable presence and strong hints of its inspiration. Bespoke Bianco SC40 paint completes the exterior transformation.

The F40 famously pioneered the use of carbon-Kevlar, here reinterpreted to feature in the footwells, behind the seats and on the steering wheel and dash inserts. Charcoal Alcantara® trim and red Jacquard technical fabric provides tactility with a suitably motorsport-inspired twist.

The SC40 is a true one-of-a-kind that fuses the spirit of F40 with modern performance and a sculptural design that’s all its own.

The styling buck used to shape the SC40’s unique bodywork goes on display at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello from 18 October, offering a rare glimpse into the creative process behind the Special Projects Programme.
