The English Trials were among the ,dangdest‘ events for sports cars in California. They were organized by the MG Car Club at Owl‘s Roost near Castaic, about 30 miles north of Hollywood. They drew some 45 entries and as expected , the MGs carried most of the honors. Walt Stone was first in the sports class; A. Pascal second; H. Hall third. Special class was won by C. Cantwell in a Studebaker-MG; M.Francisco , second; C. Whitney , third. Hard luck trophy went to Bob Niquett; sportsmanship trophy to Chuck Eselson; Women’s trophy to Coleen Herrin.
April 1955 Second Annual English Trials – Owl‘s Roost
These ‚Summer Trials‘ were strictly mayhem on wheels and the winning car often had to be carted home in a basket, but it was a great sport for drivers and wonderful fun for spectators. More English Trials were organized over the years.
