Brighton Veterans – Bathing In Sunshine

I last attended the finish line of the RAC London to Brighton Veteran Car Run in 2022 – which still lives in the memories of those who took part as “the wet one”.

Brighton Veterans - Bathing In Sunshine

This year they were bathed in sunshine rather than rain as they rolled past the beach to end their intrepid journeys.

While it is in no way intended to be a race the first “vehicle” to arrive was a tricycle. The early birds were greeted by the Lady Mayoress of Brighton along with the Commentator/interviewer, who also doubled up as push starter for those that “failed to proceed”.

More spacious and sedate vehicles were soon to roll down the promenade. Most were still fully exposed to the elements

One of the earliest arrivals was good friend Stuart Morley, on a a pedal powered bicycle. I had seen Stuart the previous Friday and he assured me his arrival would be at 12.00 pm. Lo and behold the data on my camera shows him entering Madeira drive at 11.59! His feat is all the remarkable bering in mind that he is booked in to have a shoulder operation this week.

Over an hour later on the RAC official vehicle (with an appropriate registration number) arrived, driven by RAC President, Duncan Wiltshire. Lolling in the back seat, so hidden from view here, was Clive Morley – Stuart’s father – who had wisely traveled in a much more leisurely style!

As the afternoon rolled on and the sun sunk lower towards the horizon a continual stream of beautiful veteran vehicles continued to arrive.
