HK-Engineering, the renowned specialist for classic cars and in particular the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, proudly looks back on its participation in the Mille Miglia 2023. HK-Engineering was the only team to take the pioneering step of relying on eFuel for the first time in this legendary race, thus sending a strong signal for the future of classic cars.
The Mille Miglia 2023 provided the ideal stage to test the use of “FuelMotion Synfuel98” eFuel and demonstrate the benefits of this innovative fuel alternative for classic vehicles. HK-Engineering competed with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Rubirosa”, which was piloted by the experienced drivers Jochen Mass and Ralf Eisenbach. Together they mastered the thousand miles of the Mille Miglia with the ambitious goal of demonstrating the performance of eFuel.
“We are incredibly proud to have been the only team to take the plunge and use eFuel at the 2023 Mille Miglia,” commented Hans Kleissl, founder of HK-Engineering. “This milestone marks an important turning point in the history of classic cars and shows that sustainable alternatives are also possible in the world of classic cars.”
The use of eFuel offers numerous benefits for classic vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. It is a more environmentally friendly option compared to conventional fuels and enables the preservation of the historic vehicle fleet. The HK-Engineering team gained important insights with the 300SL “Rubirosa” during the race.

However, HK Engineering is aware that there are still technical challenges that need to be overcome to ensure optimal performance. HK-Engineering is working closely with fuel manufacturer ARAMCO and FuelMotion to further develop the eFuel and address these challenges. Together, they will work on fine-tuning to create the perfect synthetic fuel for the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and other classic vehicles.
“We are confident that in close cooperation with ARAMCO and FuelMotion we will be able to solve the technical problems and further develop the eFuel,” adds Hans Kleissl. “Our goal is to find a reliable and sustainable fuel solution that preserves the historic charm of classic cars while supporting environmental protection.”
HK-Engineering is proud to have led the way with its pioneering spirit and commitment to a sustainable future for classic cars at the Mille Miglia 2023. The experience gained will serve as a valuable foundation for the further development of eFuel and unlock the potential of this innovative technology for the entire classic car community.
