Revealed at the 1974 Paris Auto Show, the concept Porsche 930 sparked a turbo street car era. The 1975 model year was the beginning of what would span a 15-year production run for the original 911 Turbo. Taking motorsports experience and applying it to a street car, the Porsche 930 was a turbo-boosted hot rod 911 that you could buy from the factory, with a warranty. Originally released with a 3.0-liter engine, in 1978 the 930 received a 3.3-liter power plant with reduced turbo lag and increased power from 260hp to 300hp. Porsche has produced a 911 Turbo variant for each subsequent 911 generation, with each striving for the success and critical acclaim of the car that started it all, the 930.

Completed at the Porsche factory on February 9th, 1984, this sinister black Turbo was originally sold to its first owner in Japan, who registered the car the same year. During his ownership, the 930 was serviced regularly despite the low mileage, as recorded by the service decals mounted in the rear deck lid. After twenty years of continuous stewardship, the owner sold the car in 2004. Its second owner kept the car until 2012, and with only 4,100 km on the odometer, sold it to the third owner, who added less than 100 kilometers under his care.

Imported to the United States by Mizwa Motor in February of 2020, the 930 arrived at Porsche of San Diego. The dealership performed a full mechanical inspection, and serviced fluids, noting the immaculate condition, incredible originality, and care bestowed during the past thirty six years.

Upon arrival at Canepa, the 930 received the “Canepa Difference” preparation, and was inspected both meticulously, and empathetically. Finding a Porsche 930 with less than 3,000 original miles, that had been maintained and taken care of in a manner such as this example is a rare find. After Bruce Canepa’s inspection, the car was judged to be in spectacular mechanical and cosmetic condition, worthy of presentation on any show lawn.

The Porsche 930 was a milestone for Porsche. With direct lineage to the race track, these street cars combined an unrivaled level of raw unadulterated power and pure driver enjoyment. Now available for its next caretaker, and just in time for Rennsport VI, you too can drive the Grandfather of the Turbo era.
