History:

This Kirkham Cobra was built by Don Hoevel. Don a former Indy Car crew chief for Newman Haas racing crewed Nigel Mansell and Sebastian Bourdais to Indy Car Championships. He now has a specialty restoration shop restoring American muscle cars and providing racetrack support.

Don has built multiple Kirkham Cobras and restored several original Cobras. His cars have won numerous Concours Awards and achieved various accolades.

‍He built this car for long time client Bobby Rahal. Bobby, a three-time Indy Car champion and Indy 500 winner, has very high standards for all the cars in his collection.

Having owned several original Cobra 289 and 427 cars he asked Don to build a Kirkham. Kirkham built the aluminum bodies for Caroll Shelby’s CSX4000 series Cobras.

‍Today they are considered the most accurate of the Cobra builds.

‍The build was completed in 2016. It has had three owners in the past 10 years and has been driven a total of 592 miles.

Condition:

A stunning and highly accurate build with as many period original parts as possible. Date coded Hipo 289 engine. AFR Alloy cylinder heads. Alloy intake manifold.

Original Holley 3259 / 715 Carburetor. QA1 shocks for best ride. Traditional Cobra suspension. Correct instruments. Ready to win a Concours or be driven on the road to enjoy the Cobra experience.

The wait time for a slab-sided aluminum Kirkham Cobra body is 18 months. The cost of this roller is over $200,000. The traditional suspension is a $25,000 option. This is the starting point to build an accurate alloy Cobra. The build cost is well over $100,000. The build time is well over 12 months.

‍The result is a 30-month wait and a $325,000 cost to replace this great example. A Superformance roller is priced at $300,000 plus the build time and cost. This 592-mile alloy Cobra is stunning and ready to go, priced less than the replacement.
