1962 Lola Mark I

Automobiles Historiques

Automobiles Historiques is offering this Lola Mark I for sale.

10000a

Chassis Number: BR-32

Winner of the final race in Goodwood’s contemporary history.

The speed and sublime handling of Eric Broadley’s 1958 Lola Mark 1 prototype spawned a marque of extraordinary breadth and success. With its tubular steel chassis and aluminium Coventry-Climax SOHC engine, the Lola was more than a match for Lotus’ Elevens and 17s. Thirty-five were sold as far afield as Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Switzerland and the USA, over one per cent of Lola’s total production. Examples raced in period Nurburgring 1000kms and the 1960 Le Mans 24 Hours.

This fabulous full UK history car, supplied to Tom Hart, then sold to Jack Paterson, is immortalised by third owner Dickie Le Strange Metcalfe’s victory in Goodwood’s last contemporary race on July 2, 1966, when painted black. Subsequent owners include Rupert Glydon, David Leslie – whose wife was Eric Broadley’s niece – Malcolm Verey, Peter Rutt and its current custodian.

Superbly prepared, highly competitive (overall Stirling Moss Trophy Winner at Thruxton, pole position and podium finisher at Goodwood) and eligible for Le Mans Classic, The Gentleman Challenge, the GT & Sports Car Cup races and Goodwood’s Members’ Meeting and Revival (where it has been a regular previous invitee), BR-32 is offered with HTP and in stunning condition.
