McKlein Motorsport Classics: The German Grand Prix Of 1959

The German Grand Prix of 1959 was unique in that it was held for this one time only on the outdated Avus track in Berlin. The photo shows Masten Gregory, Bruce McLaren, Cliff Allison and Phil Hill chatting while getting ready for the start and wearing their “state of the art” helmet visors. In a race dominated by Ferrari – whose cars took the first three places – Phil Hill would finish third behind his teammates, Tony Brooks and Dan Gurney.

Motorsport Classic 2024 Calendar

The McKlein Motorsport Classic calendar evokes the great years of motor racing and rallying with names like Monza and Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps and the Safari Rally and those of drivers like John Surtees, Niki Lauda, Walter Röhrl, Bruce McLaren and Phil Hill. Every month you can embellish your wall with photographs from the 1950s to 1970s featuring scenes and portraits from the McKlein database. You can choose one of two photographs each month, or swap them during the month. Watch Hans-Joachim Stuck operating as a Formula One lawnmower on the Österreichring, or Shelby Cobras in Sicily, the rapid Mercedes car transporter, the “Blue Wonder”, as well as marvelling at the 1959 helmet fashion at the Avus GP in Berlin.

This unique wall decoration shows sports cars and formula racers as well as legendary rally cars and touring cars, in short, practically the whole range of motorsport from the middle of the Twentieth Century. As always, there is a mini-story about each picture, and there are a total of twenty-five photographs in an attractive format of sixty-seven by forty-eight centimetres.
