Exceptional Motor Cars At Bonhams Goodwood Speedweek Sale

A host of automotive rarities and a raft of exceptional single-owner motor car collections will line up at Goodwood next month for the Bonhams Goodwood Speedweek Sale on Saturday 17 October, part of the spectacular ‘SpeedWeek’ event taking place at the historic West Sussex motor circuit.

1967 Ferrari 330 GTS – one of 100 – a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC Coupé, one of 26 right-hand drive versions, and an even rarer one-of-seven 2013 RUF Clubsport are all to be offered in the traditional live auction, which will also feature three important collections from the UK and Europe, as well as the ultimate Ferrari, an F40.

1967 Ferrari 330 GTS, coachwork by Pininfarina, estimate £1,200,000 – £1,500,000

Claimed in period by Ferrari to be the ‘world’s finest convertible two-seater’, the 330 GTS remains one of the Maranello-marque’s rarest soft-top V12 models, with only 100 examples produced. The 330 GTS specification included leather seats and electric windows as standard, with optional Borrani wire wheels as fitted to this car.

1969 Ferrari 365 GTC Coupé, estimate £500,000 – 600,000

The successor to the 330, the 365 offered even more power and performance, but still retained the unmistakeable Pininfarina-styling of the earlier model. This car is offered as part of the Chester Collection.

1991 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta, estimate £900,000 – 1,300,000

The flagship of the brand and the fastest ‘street-legal’ production car of its day, the Pininfarina-penned F40 was built to celebrate Ferrari’s 40thanniversary and was the last car to be personally signed off by Enzo Ferrari.

Although around 1300 were eventually produced – such was the popularity of this iconic model – there are currently only around 100 registered on the UK’s roads. This car has covered a very low 17,000 kms from new and is Ferrari Classiche-certified.

2013 RUF CTR 3 Clubsport, Estimate £600,000 – 900,000

Another race-bred road car is this desirable and exclusive rare right-hand drive Porsche 911 based hypercar, offered with delivery mileage (46 miles).

One of just 30 built and one of only seven with Clubsport spec, its engine, Porsche’s 3.8 litre ‘flat six’, has been boosted by a pair of KKK superchargers resulting in 777bhp and a top speed of 236mph. This track-worthy performance is complemented by racing car features such as a carbon fibre spoiler.

The rarities will line up with an anticipated 100 collectors’ motor cars, dating from pre-war machines to 21st century supercars, at ‘Earl’s Court’ at Goodwood, the motor circuit’s tribute to the former traditional home of the British Motor Show.

A Clutch of Collections

There are three superb single-owner collections offered in the Bonhams Goodwood Speedweek Sale, including the aforementioned Chester Collection which also features a recently restored 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Sports Saloon, estimate £700,000 – 800,000.

The Alps to Goodwood collection comprises eight ‘driver’s cars’ which have all been extensively driven and enjoyed and even campaigned in international events, led by a 1931 Invicta S-Type Low Chassis (£1,000,000 – 1,200,000).

The Collection of a Gentleman Racer includes a 2005 Mercedes SLR McLaren Coupé, estimate £220,000 – 280,000, and a Goodwood-competing 1961 Emeryson 1.5-Litre Formula 1 Single-seater, £150,000 – 200,000.

Sholto Gilbertson, Director, Bonhams Motoring and Head of the Bonhams Goodwood Speedweek Sale, said: “The calibre of motor cars on offer is truly world-class and, like the Goodwood Speedweek weekend, celebrates the very best of historic and more modern automotive performance, design and engineering.

“The entire motoring team is looking forward to a weekend to remember.”

Goodwood SpeedWeek is a one-off ‘behind closed doors’ spectacular, running from 16 to 18 October, celebrating the greatest elements of the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, which were both cancelled due to the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19.

The weekend will feature famous faces driving the most valuable cars in a diverse line-up of races, as well as a rally competition and the new ‘Goodwood Gymkhana’, celebrating the past, present and future of motoring.
