Some cars tell a story. Others represent an entire era. This 1964 Maserati Sebring 3500 GTi undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. Born during a period in which Maserati evolved from a successful racing constructor into a manufacturer of exclusive grand touring automobiles, the Sebring represents one of the most elegant chapters in the marque’s rich history.

This particular example distinguishes itself on several levels. First and foremost, it is a highly desirable early Series I car. Furthermore, it is finished in the exceptionally rare color “Acqua di Fonte,” a shade seldom seen on Sebrings and one that gives this example an especially exclusive character. The subtle hue beautifully accentuates the refined lines of the bodywork designed by Carrozzeria Vignale.

The history of this Maserati is every bit as impressive as its appearance. In 1964, the car was purchased by Baron Toulo de Graffenried, former Maserati Grand Prix driver and a well-known figure in international motorsport. The Sebring spent many years in Lausanne before passing into the hands of a select group of owners, each of whom can only be described as true enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the marque.

The accompanying history file reflects this perfectly. Invoices, photographs, historical records, and numerous supporting documents are all present, together forming a remarkable account of this Maserati’s life. In addition, the car benefits from official Maserati certification, complete with the corresponding documentation.

The moment you see this Sebring, it becomes immediately apparent that this is an exceptionally well-preserved example. The bodywork presents beautifully, with paintwork that showcases the elegant design to perfection. The chrome trim remains in outstanding condition and complements the sophisticated body color beautifully. Inside, the cabin is entirely in keeping with the car’s exceptional standard. The leather is of superb quality, and the materials throughout are simply exquisite.

The Sebring was based on the successful 3500 GT, the model that firmly established Maserati’s position as a producer of exclusive road cars in the late 1950s. Under the direction of the brilliant Giulio Alfieri, Maserati created a grand tourer that combined racing-derived engineering expertise with genuine long-distance comfort. The Sebring built upon those foundations while adding an even greater sense of exclusivity.

Ultimately, however, a Maserati such as this cannot be defined solely by specifications or historical facts. Its true character reveals itself the moment the engine comes to life and the first miles unfold. The steering feels lively, direct, and mechanical, while the overall driving experience creates a sense of involvement that has virtually disappeared from modern automobiles. Everything works together exactly as a classic Italian grand tourer should.

This Maserati Sebring 3500 GTi represents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well-documented and certified example with a fascinating provenance. A car for the true connoisseur. A car that never demands attention, yet effortlessly commands it from those who understand exactly what they are looking at.
