The Shelby Daytona is one of those cars whose story almost seems too big for the bodywork. A low nose, a long roofline, a distinctive rear end, and the presence of a car that was not designed to look pretty on a concours lawn, but to challenge Ferrari at high speed. And that is exactly what it did.

In the early 1960s, Shelby Cobra roadsters were highly successful on American circuits. Light, powerful, and extremely fast. But on European tracks such as Le Mans, one problem became apparent: aerodynamics. The open Cobra simply was not aerodynamic enough to make full use of its power on the long straights. Carroll Shelby therefore asked Peter Brock and Ken Miles to develop a closed coupé version. The result was the Daytona Coupe. And it changed everything.

The Daytona was built to take on Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Jaguar. On the racetrack. With drivers such as Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant, Allen Grant, and Phil Hill, the Daytona became one of the most successful and iconic American race cars ever created. In 1965, Shelby won the FIA World Sportscar GT class. In doing so, Shelby became the only American manufacturer ever to achieve that feat.

This example is a Shelby Daytona CSX9000 Continuation Coupe. Built by Shelby American, approved by Carroll Shelby, and carrying a CSX chassis number. In practical terms, you do not get much closer to the original than this. This is an official continuation car from the Shelby family.

The glovebox has been signed by Peter Brock, the man who drew the original Daytona design. That is not just a signature. It is a direct connection to the creation of one of the most legendary race cars in American motorsport history.

The specification is exactly how you want to see it: Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White racing stripes. The classic Shelby color scheme. Of course, other colors are possible. Of course, you can debate matters of taste. But with a Daytona Coupe in blue with white stripes, that discussion tends to end rather quickly.
Under the hood sits a Roush 427IR Ford V8. A serious powerplant. It gives this Daytona not only the appearance of a racing legend, but also the performance to match its character. This is a car that wants to go fast.

The CSX9000 Continuation combines the historic concept with a number of useful improvements. The fundamentals remain faithful to the Daytona story, but with more modern construction, better brakes, improved safety, and greater usability. Just enough refinement to make the car easier to use, without losing the raw Shelby character.

The condition of this example can best be described as virtually new. The bodywork, paint, mechanicals, and interior all present at a level entirely appropriate for a car with this provenance. The black trim, Shelby details, and classic cockpit give the car exactly the right atmosphere: functional, muscular, and unmistakably American. A car that does not merely tell the Daytona story, but brings it back to life.
