Enzo Ferrari considered road cars a waste of time. He wanted to win. That his racing cars still ended up street-legal? A stroke of luck. Because the brand has long since become a cultural phenomenon in its own right. Michael Köckritz makes the case across 400 pages in his book THE ART OF FERRARI.
THE ART OF FERRARI is not another book about horsepower, model years, or lap times from the brand with the prancing horse on its crest. “There are plenty of those already, and, to be honest, the best Ferrari stories were never in the spec sheet anyway,” says author Michael Köckritz, publisher and editor-in-chief of the car culture magazine ramp.
Starting in Modena, Ferrari’s birthplace, Köckritz and his team trace the spirit of the brand through Enzo Ferrari’s historic sites and explore its modern expressions at the brand’s headquarters in Maranello and on roads around the world. The book offers rare glimpses into Ferrari’s manufactory and behind the otherwise tightly guarded doors of the factory. It also includes exclusive interviews with design chief Flavio Manzoni, chief test driver Raffaele De Simone, and head of product development Gianmaria Fulgenzi.
The book also examines the brand’s cultural impact, which shapes film, music, art, fashion, and lifestyle like almost no other car manufacturer. The most legendary vehicles in the brand’s history are therefore presented as “Sculptures of Speed.” This lavish volume combines exclusive photographic essays with an artistic sensibility and genuine reportage.
