The int. ADAC / MCS circuit racing for the “Preis der Stadt Stuttgart 2020” in the Baden Motodrom of Hockenheim has been the traditional start to the new season for many racing series in April. Due to the corona, the event had to be postponed this year. But from 03.-05.07.2020 the time had finally come and it was back to business at Hockenheiming.
The Alfa Romeo Challenge was the first German racing series that started in Corona on Friday at 9 a.m. in the first time training. According to the motto – small cars really big – the battle of the dwarves was announced. The small touring cars, with a maximum displacement of up to 1300 cc, are among the public’s favorites at every historic motor sport event.
It continued with the racing series VFV-GLPpro.
The VFV-GLPpro, Uniformity Check Professional, is a series within the Veteran Vehicle Association – VFV for short – that specializes in carrying out uniformity runs on the circuit without timing by the driver or front passenger. The classifications include touring cars (class B), GT vehicles (class C), formula vehicles (class D) and sports prototypes (class E). The focus here is on fun in motorsport, on uniformity tests, tech talk and gasoline talks.
After weeks and months of waiting, the historic Formula Vau Europa was finally allowed to return to the track with its historic vehicles, followed by the Cup and TW Trophy.
29 drivers had registered for the Cup and Touring Car Trophy and started the series for former STW and Cup vehicles as well as touring cars that are prepared according to 24H Special or Group A, B and N regulations. The displacement of the vehicles is limited to 3.6 liters.
At 6:00 p.m., the participants in the Triumph Competition & British HTGT series completed their first qualifying session followed by the Ferrari Club. Day 1 of the event was over and I had a lot of fun finally being back at the Hockenheimring after the long period of restrictions.
On Saturday around 11.50 a.m., the 25 participants of the PCHC were allowed on the race track for the first time. The Porsche Club Historic Challenge (PCHC) stands for motorsport with historic Porsche models. From the Transaxle Porsche to the entire range of 911 models to the 997 Cup – all of these vehicles find a home in the series. The PCHC is a series of the Porsche Club Germany, which is accompanied and supported by the Porsche company.
The Youngtimer Trophy started its 27th season at the Hockenheim Motodrom in Baden and the spell of this racing series is still unbroken. The fans experience a unique range of motorsport from the 70s and 80s.
Last but not least, the first time training for the HTGT / Dunlop Endurance was scheduled for Saturday at 4:55 p.m.
The HiTGT for the Dunlop Trophy is the oldest, historic racing series in Germany.
Originally only intended for touring cars, the then HTWT also opened up for GTs and changed its name to HTGT. Vehicles up to 1975 are allowed. With sprint races of 60 minutes each with a mandatory pit stop, the “HTGT for the Dunlop Trophy” offers an interesting program for drivers and spectators.
The Dunlop Historic Endurance Cup runs long-distance races with a race duration of two to four hours. Vehicles in the GT category, touring cars and two-seater racing cars from the years of construction 1947 to 1976 are permitted according to the regulations of the FIA Appendix “K”.
An event on the order of the Int. ADAC / MSC circuit racing at the price of the city of Stuttgart is a special challenge in Corona times. The careful and as always professional organization by the Motorsport Club Stuttgart made it possible for all participants to spend an “almost normal” race weekend.
