Lamborghini Polo Storico, the Italian supercar stable’s in-house restoration department, spent three years returning this 1972 Miura SV to its original condition.
The car arrived back at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory at the end of 2023 after more than 50 years on the road had taken its toll. Over time, various components had been replaced, including exterior and interior trim, while other parts had simply been removed.
The restoration began in Lamborghini’s library by digging out the car’s production sheet and going through it line by line. Returning the Miura to its 1972 specification involved putting back period-correct front fender grilles, rear louvers, octagonal center locks for the wheels, and “Bob” exhaust tips, named after Lambo test driver Bob Wallace.
Inside, the air conditioning and hazard warning switches had been removed, so these were re-fitted, while a non-standard steering wheel and handbrake lever had also been put in at some stage, and needed to be swapped back.
In the paint shop, the brilliant brown Luci del Bosco bodywork was resprayed, and the exact shade of Senape tan for the interior leather was recreated.
Giuliano Cassataro, Head of After Sales of Automobili Lamborghini, says, “We are proud to have completed a restoration that returns this Miura SV to its original identity and its value over time, according to historical standards that only Lamborghini Polo Storico, as the official custodian of the brand’s heritage, is able to guarantee.”
The car was unveiled at the first-ever Anantara Concorso Roma, where Lamborghini marked the 60th anniversary of the Miura by also showing perhaps the most famous example ever made—a 1968 P400, which featured in the 1969 Michael Caine heist movie The Italian Job. In the film, the Miura appeared to be destroyed in an alpine tunnel, so it was widely believed the car was lost. However, the historians at Polo Storico were able to confirm that the car survived, and restored it in time for the film’s 50th anniversary in 2019.
