Riding Shotgun

600 concepts submitted, six finalists and six months of customisation – and in the end there can only be one winner: The winner of the customising competition “Busted Knuckles Build Off” by Royal Enfield is “SHAAN”. The Brandenburg dealer Motorrad Bläsing is behind the customised Shotgun 650. It is not his first success.

For the second time, Royal Enfield organised the brand’s own competition in Europe, which is aimed exclusively at Royal Enfield dealers and offers them a creative stage for customising. And for the second time, the winners are Thomas Bläsing and Dirk Wohlgemuth: In 2023, the duo from East Brandenburg won under the label “W&B Custombikes” for the Royal Enfield dealer Motorrad Bläsing with their “Beach Cruiser” based on an RE Interceptor 650. This time, a Shotgun 650 was converted into “SHAAN”.

The result impressed the jury and audience alike. This is thanks to an aluminium body with tank, rear, side panels and bellypan, painted with metallic flakes and finished with an airbrush by Streetgrafix Berlin. The original engine is equipped with a modified oil cooler, the engine covers are mirror-polished and the electronic engine control unit is adapted to integrate open air filters. The upside-down forkhas been modified and combines pneumatic lift with hydraulic damping. It is complemented by an Air-Ride rear suspension with integrated compressor, which makes ground clearance and suspension customisable.

The  “SHAAN” is equipped with a motorised headlight with automatic shades and an electrically controlled central stand. The electrical functions are controlled via an Arduino system in combination with motogadget components. The seat was handmade by upholsterer Andre Sänger.

More than 2,000 hours of work and sweat went into the project, which the creators describe as an anniversary gift to Royal Enfield. Thomas Bläsing: “The name means ‘pride, honour, glory’ in Hindi – and that’s exactly what we felt during construction.”
