A Ford, superbly driven by Roman Dumas, won the Goodwood Festival of Speed “Shoot Out” on Sunday for the third year running. Following wins with an F Series Truck and a Transit Van in 2024 and 2025 they brought a Mustang E to the fray which had a convincing victory.

Also on show, for only the second time together since their famous 1966 Le Mans victory, were the three GT40 Mark IIs which recreated their 1-2-3 finish so recently captured on film. This win, and the company’s dominance of almost all forms of motor racing in the latter half of the sixties drove me, as a teenager, to the decision that Ford was the only company I ever wanted to work for. So it was that in 1973 I joined as a graduate trainee and enjoyed every single day that passed until becoming a pensioner many years later.

Happy memories – that can be relived at the Goodwood Revival in September, when they are due to make a return visit.
