Porsche 917

The Porsche 917 was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1969. Powered by an air-cooled twelve-cylinder mid-engine-with a displacement of 4.5 litres, the first engines had an output of 383 kW (520 hp) at 8000rpm.

Through the use of turbochargers the engine power was increased to 1100 hp at 7800rpm in 1973. Manufactured as a short-hit coupe, longheck coupe and Spyder, the 917 was one of the most successful racing sports cars of the 1970s. In 1970, Porsche achieved the overall victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time with the 917.
